The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills. The AMC 8 provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. Students apply classroom skills to unique problem-solving challenges in a low-stress and friendly environment.
The material covered on the AMC 8 includes topics from a typical middle school mathematics curriculum. Possible topics include but are not limited to: counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course. Our AMC 8 Prep Course covers all these topics and more, so sign up now!
The exact date is not yet released, but we expect the AMC 8 to be hosted late January, 2023.

MOEMS® (Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools) is a math problem-solving contests for students in grades 4–8. Established in 1979 and is one of the most influential and fun-filled math competition programs in the United States and throughout the world, with over 120,000 students from every state and 39 countries participating. The objectives of MOEMS® are to teach multiple strategies for out-of-the-box problem solving, develop mathematical flexibility in solving those problems, and foster mathematical creativity and ingenuity.
The MOEMS Competitions are 5 sets of 5 problems given from November through March, and cover a wide range of mathematical problems that require outside-the-box thinking. It is split into two divisions: elementary school (4-6th) and middle school (6-8th). Prizes are also awarded to top scores from each school. Learn more about all of the topics covered in our MOEMS Summer Class.
Past MOEMS are not archived on their website, but you can probably find them through Google. However, they do have a sample problem set here: https://moems.org/sample/
At the moment, AstroMath is not hosting the MOEMS Competition (subject to change). The MOEMS Competition is not as popular as the AMCs, so it may be difficult to find a host near you. The best way to sign up is through local organizations who provide the competition.
